Alex Mah and Luciana D’Anunciação

POSTPONED DUE TO COVID-19

During their residency, Alex and Luciana will explore the use of verbal (text-based) scores to instigate interdisciplinary improvisation (music, dance, creative writing). By sourcing scores from various disciplines and translating the ideas into their own bodies and practices, they will formulate new scores. Working with scores will allow them to create new material with more structures and depth while improvising. They are intrigued by the idea of exploring score creation after improvisation (allowing their embodied experience to inform their scores).

Alex Mah and Luciana D’Anunciação can’t wait to pick up their long term collaboration again after accumulating new skills and experiences in the U.K. and Brazil, respectively. Alex recently completed a master’s degree in composition in the U.K. integrating ideas from dance improvisation into a formal composition practice of verbal scores. While in Brazil, Luciana developed research in dance improvisation during a four-month residency with an ensemble of dancers.
